Oh my, this is the most emotional painting for me as it portrays my precious "Dolly" in her middle years. She was born into my arms and died in my arms 18 years later. In my grief over her loss, I painted this portrait, using the hours to remember our adventures and grand life together. The day I finished the painting and grabbed what I thought was a fresh t-shirt, I found it covered in her fur. She must have snuggled there in her final days so that I might find it in the future when I needed it. Proceeds from Becker Artwork are donated to Animal Advocacy Organizations.
I create intimate, intense animal portraiture that interprets a unique sense of dignity and personality - be it joy, desire, or even sorrow, so that each furry individual can be celebrated and cherished, both in the moment, and for life. My imagery celebrates a special presence, an inner spark that connects to ours. I hope my art brings joy to animal lovers, raises funds for animal advocacy, and inspires others to learn about and protect our precious friends. Portraying these personalities is a passion for me, a deep kind of intimacy. My sense of time, age and gender seem to disappear when I am at my easel. I love this picture! The feelings of losing a beloved pet are so familiar. I recently did a picture of one of my cats I lost two years ago, September. I had mine for 16 years, she was wild when I first came across my 'Misty'. And recently I lost my other cat 'Gidget' at 15 years this past November, and hope to do a portrait of her as well. I still come home from work and expect to see them both. I too still miss them.
